Over the past two months, I’ve been told from time to time through various channels (online and offline) that some people think it’s a real shame the blog is offline. This often led to a brief conversation, and it quickly became clear that my reasons were understandable. Overall, this made me realize that people are actually reading this blog, which made me very happy 😍
When I announced that the blog was going offline, I had already mentioned:
As soon as I come up with a good and feasible solution, I will make the old content available again and also work on new content, but until then, I’m sorry.
I’ve given this issue a lot of thought, came up with a possible solution, and have since implemented it. Is it perfect? Certainly not. Otherwise, I’d be treating my human readers, whom I want to attract, too harshly. But hopefully, these changes will drastically reduce abuse by ruthless crawlers/scrapers.
Of course, I could have opted for solutions from major CDN providers, like so many other sites do these days, but anyone who knows me should know that I’m no fan of monopolistic structures. And anyone who saw how many sites were affected by the last major Cloudflare outage might begin to understand what I mean by that. A large number of the websites I typically visit throughout the day were suddenly offline.
